House Tour With Sources: Primary Bedroom

Updated on:

I’m so excited to share the details of our main bedroom! It’s full of cozy layers, playful pops of color, and little whimsical touches.

A Few Random Notes

It’s actually a great room to call out the process for– this was not done overnight! It was very much a one wall at a time thing, and we finished it about 5 years after moving in.

We originally painted it Farrow & Ball French Grey, but it never felt quite right. I always told people it reminded me of a room in Great Wolf Lodge! Lots of wood, lots of grey green.

A few years later we painted the walls, doors and trim Templeton Pink and gosh, I love it!! This is my reminder that you can always go back and repaint if you don’t love it!

Color drenching a room is not something I typically do– the other rooms in our house have a neutral wall with a fun trim color. The primary bedroom felt like a fun place to do something different, though.

After the paint color, I layered in fun art with colorful frames and quirky finds to make the space feel joyful and personal. This also took time, and I didn’t get everything hung until this past December (5 years after moving in!)

Main Bedroom Sources

I’ve detailed where everything is from below, from furniture and rugs to art and decor, so you can see exactly how this room came together. Hopefully it gives you a few ideas to create a little Whimsical Charm in your own home!

Paint Colors & art

Paint Color: Templeton Pink walls and trim. We used Modern Emulsion for the walls and Modern Eggshell for the trim. Dead Flat for walls and Flat Eggshell for trim are also great options.

Antique Chair: thrifted!

Ferris Wheel Art: the frame is also from Artfully Walls, which made it so easy!!! I opted for a mat and a red wood frame.

The art above is from Artfully Walls– they gave me a code for YOU! Use code HOMEINTHEHEMLOCKS20 for 20% off your Artfully Walls order through the end of January!!!

Flower Art: I painted the frame Fruit Fool

Yellow Frame Art: thrifted! I painted the frame India Yellow

Blue Frame Art: thrifted! I painted the frame Oval Room Blue

Blue dresser & Accessories

Dresser: Washed wood dresser from Anthro– it’s no longer available 🙁

Green Mirror: it’s a Home Good finds– I painted it in Card Room Green

Wooden Tray: I have these all over the house– I use them to group things like books, candles, coasters…

Lampshade: Love this! It’s pretty big but just so cute. It’s in the color Tales

Lamp Base: thrifted– I painted it Templeton Pink (the same color as the walls!)

Dried Flowers: similar (and of course you can always dry your own or find them locally!)

Bed & Nightstand Details

The headboard was a DIY project! It had a natural linen fabric and we swapped it out for a gingham tablecloth. It was really easy but you’d need a headboard that has a similar fabric piece.

Duvet: Striped duvet cover

Quilt: Stillwater quilt in Juniper

Nightstand: It’s from Anthropologie but is no longer available! It’s called a washed wood nightstand.

Sconce: Antique glass & bronze wall sconce

Sheets: European linen sheet set in soft blush color. These are perfect for that laidback look, and they get better with every wash.

Patterned Pillows: They are by Muse Textiles, which is one of my favorite makers! Her prints are so colorful and vibrant.

Nightstand art: Bunny Print

Portraits above bed: commissioned a resident artist (our oldest son– he’s 7!)

Rug: Anthropologie no longer has it in stock but here’s a super similar (& more affordable!) rug

Goose birthday candle holder

Bug vase

Lego flowers: these were a gift from my son! It was a perfect gift because I love decorating with toys and Legos. It gives the house a lived-in, kid-friendly feel.

East Fork mug: the color is Lamb’s Ear but it’s no longer available. They always have great colors, though! I especially love Heron.

Wooden dresser & Accessories

Gosh, I’m realizing how hard it will be to source this part of the room. Unfortunately, pretty much everything was thrifted. I’ll link what I can!

Dresser: thrifted

Pendant Lights: we have the Rosen and the Kassia in antique glass

Floral art: thrifted

Lamp base: The lamp is from Target! I painted it India Yellow. It took a few hours but was kind of fun and looks great!!

Lampshade: we added the fabric ourselves to the original shade! Here’s a tutorial for a DIY pleated lampshade. The fabric is Idlewild by Hamilton Fabrics.

Yellow planter

Yellow Stripe Frame: it’s from Anthropologie but no longer available (it was called the Whitney frame.) Here’s a similar one!

Books On My Nightstand & Dresser

Portraits Of Humanity (green spine): I don’t see it available but here’s volume 3 with a yellow cover
