Our Home Tour Entryway

A tour of our colorful entryway-- Card Room Green trim, a gallery wall four years in the making, yellow stripe chairs, and all the sources linked. Some rooms take time. This one was worth the wait.

Welcome to the Entryway

Our entryway is the first thing you see when you walk into our home, so I wanted it to feel joyful and welcoming. We used color on the trim, brought in vintage finds mixed with new pieces, and added layers of art and textiles to create that collected, lived-in feel.

I’m excited to show you around! First I’ll give a quick tour and you’ll find everything linked after that.

A Reminder: It Takes Time

This room came together one wall at a time– slowly, over several years, and not always in the right order.

The fireplace was first, painted Green Smoke early on when I was just starting to experiment with color. It never felt quite right but repainting felt like such an ordeal. (It isn’t. We let it sit for two years before finally doing Card Room Green, which took an afternoon and immediately felt like the room it was always supposed to be.)

The beadboard under the stairs came separately. It was one of Alex’s mini project and it transformed that corner into one of the most charming spots in the house. Jackets, backpacks, kids coming and going. It gave the entryway life.

The seating area came together a few years ago, and just this past year we finally did the gallery wall and Alex built the long table to go with it.

Some rooms arrive all at once. This one took its time. I think it’s better for it.

Wondering about the stove? It’s an old Hearthstone Wood Stove in original blue. It came like this– we didn’t paint it!

The Beadboard Wall

I didn’t realize when Alex installed the beadboard under the stairs that it would become such an iconic part of the house. Both on Instagram and also just in our house.

It was an early project and I remember looking at it from the kitchen after it was installed and thinking– wow, people live here. I loved seeing the backpacks and hats hanging. The shoes scattered at the floor. The house had LIFE! It was missing these signs.

I get that same feeling when I hang art.

We originally painted the wall French Gray. I really loved it, but as time went on and I leaned more into color it didn’t feel like it was quite enough. Card Room Green did the trick.

The picture above was taken during the French Gray era and honestly– I can’t tell a difference between it and Card Room Green! But in real life it was lighter and less colorful (as you’d expect!)

I think it serves as a great reminder that sometimes you have to build up your comfort level with using color.

The Yellow Stripe Chairs

Speaking of iconic things in our house, the yellow stripe chairs!!

Do you know how I found them? I googled “yellow stripe chairs” and there they were, waiting for me.

I was initially on the hunt for swivel chairs but once I saw these I let the swivel thing go.

In hindsight, our two boys would have been nonstop spinning on swivel chairs. They use the current chairs like a jungle gym anyway, so I’m glad they aren’t getting dizzy in the process.

Also, speaking of kids and these chairs! I’m happy to report that they are slipcovered and that they wash great. We always wash cold + hang to dry and haven’t had any issues with getting them back on.

The Gallery Wall

There’s a large wall facing you when you walk in, and for four years it drove me a little crazy. So much wall, nothing on it!

Alex built a long table for it last summer and I filled the wall with art, and just like that it became one of my favorite things about the whole house.

Four years after moving in! Things take time– I’ve mentioned that, right? If you see something you love, I’ve shared all of the pieces featured on the entryway gallery wall here.

Gallery wall tips & tricks

Entryway Paint Colors

As with all of rooms downstairs, I used the standard color palette that I like to make design decisions with.

The walls are Off White and the trim is Card Room Green. The long table in front of the gallery wall is Oval Room Blue.
