I’m back with another round of fun outfit ideas to carry us through the next few months! Even though it’s winter right now, this wardrobe is less about bundling up in heavy jackets and boots, and more about what you’re actually wearing inside. Think: cute layers, fun accessories, and playful color and pattern mixing.
Color has always been a big part of life here at Home in the Hemlocks— not just in our house, but in how I get dressed, too. The same instinct that makes me mix patterns, layer art, and choose joyful colors at home definitely shows up in my wardrobe.
This wardrobe article isn’t about trends or getting things “just right.” It’s about putting together a small, mix-and-match collection that feels fun, easy to wear, and full of personality, very much like our spaces. Think of it as a colorful house, but in outfit form.
A Quick Note
I really enjoy pulling the wardrobe roundups together– this is the third one! For this one I skipped the typical dark winter color palette in favor of pieces that feel fresh, cheerful, and a little unexpected. You know, a sardine purse, green loafers…
I hope this goes without saying, but you don’t need these exact items to create a capsule wardrobe like this. My hope is simply that this list inspires you to have fun with your clothes, mix what you already own in new ways, and build a wardrobe that truly feels like you.
Mix & Match Wardrobe Pieces
Below you’ll find links to each piece, followed by the 12 mix-and-match outfits I pulled together. As I was styling them, I kept thinking: these shoes could go with this… or this… or this.
Same with the bags… everything works together. Which is just my way of saying: this is truly a mix-and-match wardrobe.
And do you know why???
I used a color palette!!!! It’s the same thing I do at home, and it makes it easy to move pieces from room to room. Same thing goes here– mix & match these pieces. No rules, have fun!
Shirts
I love this shirt! I have it in Mountain Olive, Field of Greens, and Dried Herbs. It’s colorful, soft, and RIBBED (a happy surprise when it arrived!), and is ESPECIALLY GREAT FOR LAYERING.
Sizing details: I ordered both my regular size and one size up. As the name suggests, it’s snug! My true size is indeed snug. If you prefer a looser fit, I recommend sizing up.
Sweaters
Oh this sweater, she’s perfect. If it’s not too cold out, it’s a great one to drape over your shoulders. It’s heavy so it actually stays. And on that– it’s heavy so it keeps you warm!
Button Down Shirts
You can find these just about anywhere (and I bet you already have one!) They’re a total closet staple for me, and I wear mine all the time with jeans– yes, even if it does give Canadian tuxedo.
I pulled a few different ones to include various colors and price points.

Max Shirt In Deep Blue
This one is on the pricier side, but it comes with free customization! I got one a few years ago and added my initials in red thread. Such a cute touch!
Pants
Here are a few jeans I love– all different price points!

Madewell Balloon Unility Pants
I have these and love them! I am 5’4″ and the regular size was too long for me so I ended up with the petite size because I wanted to wear them with loafers.
Accessories
Shoes
I’ve included several options and price points for the shoes, especially the leopard ones!
